New tire design
They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.
The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.
This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:
a... no more air valves
a... no more air compressors at gas stations
a... no more repair kits
SCAN DOWN & SEE.
These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry.
This nifty piece of OfficeSpam was submitted by Jon.
Update: I received a different version of this e-mail from JPAC, which contained a different image as well as some more text. I have incorporated those changes to the original post.

They had a "pair" at the car show?
Wouldn't they work better if you had all four?

yeah but they had better cover the side walls... other wise dirt/snow/anything will get caught in there and youll be in for a very rough ride, plus no more low profile tires... it looks like your rim will have to only be 13 inches as well

amazing concept, brilliant engineering, I hope they are able to devolop a highly stable, high performance wheel with the same characteristics as the current low speed prototypes they've already created! great job guys, way to think outside the box! I hope these guys make it to the market within the next few years!

great idea, but sadly still not at the market yet.
I guess they are very noisy at high speed.
And, could be heavy and expansive if the tire tread is weak.
